Job Description Weekend live news editor The weekend live news editor is a senior position responsible for helping to deliver distinctive live coverage for the Times and Sunday Times app and website during our biggest traffic days of Saturday and Sunday. They will ensure the quality of our digital journalism, running the homepage, editing live breaking news, and improving online copy, pictures, graphics and video. They are responsible for guaranteeing that all output remains true to the Times and Sunday Times aesthetics. Day to day you will: Help to manage the workflow for stories on the homepage, deciding when to publish stories and curating how they appear on the homepage Take a holistic view of the day’s content across all sections and how/where it will appear on the homepage and section fronts Use data and digital knowledge to help guide decision making and construct headlines that are effective both on- and off-platform Manage a live blog if there is one, bringing together different desks where necessary Present stories, performance and decision-making in news conference when required Send push notifications Successfully manage productive relationships with the news editors of The Times and Sunday Times, the planning editor, production editors and the audience team Work closely with the planning editor to get ahead of the biggest stories coming down the track Work a three-day week of compressed hours from Friday to Sunday, including long days on Saturday and Sunday What we are looking for from you: Experience working as a digital news editor for a national newspaper or major digital news organisation Demonstrable interest in news and current affairs as well as a good knowledge of lifestyle, cultural trends and sport An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with accuracy Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solve Able to communicate succinctly and effectively Understanding of social media platforms to engage current and new audiences Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues We are News UK : One of the leading media businesses in the UK and Ireland.
