Offer description

Senior Project Manager (Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment) - 31062

We promote an inclusive culture and welcome all applicants, including disabled, LGBT+ individuals, and Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnicities.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (tNCEA) Programme — a flagship initiative shaping how we understand and manage the water environment. The Programme supports Defra's wider NCEA programme in building a groundbreaking evidence base on the state and value of our natural environment and ecosystems to transform environmental decision-making in England.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead the delivery of the Environment Agency’s workstreams within the programme, focusing on outcomes, collaboration, and high-quality results. You will work alongside specialists in science, data, and operations to ensure alignment with programme goals while maintaining strong relationships across teams.

We’re looking for someone with energy, initiative, and leadership. You should have experience managing programmes or large projects, be organized and detail-oriented, and capable of managing delivery across time, cost, and quality. You will thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment and enjoy working with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

This high-profile role offers excellent exposure across the Environment Agency and Defra. It includes line management responsibilities and deputising duties supporting the Programme Manager.

If you are passionate about making a difference for nature and society and enjoy turning strategy into delivery, we’d love to hear from you.

The team

You will join the NCEA Programme Management team within the Environment and Business (Chief Scientist Group) Directorate, reporting to the EA NCEA Programme Manager. We are a small, friendly team committed to improving the water environment. We support flexible working to promote work-life balance and reduce our carbon footprint.

Find out more about the NCEA here: Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment Programme - GOV.UK.

Experience/skills Required

* Strong experience supporting the delivery of programmes or large projects.
* Focus on quality and attention to detail in your work.
* Stakeholder engagement and organizational skills.
* Experience managing finances, procurement, and building budgets in a programme environment.
* Ability to build good relationships and work collaboratively.

Desirable

* Experience with PRINCE2 principles.
* Experience working in virtual teams to deliver outcomes.
* Awareness of business change.
* Familiarity with the NCEA Programme.

Additional Information

You will have an incident management objective in your development plan. Appropriate training will be provided. The role is flexible regarding location, with an EA office base. Some travel and overnight stays are required.

Interviews are scheduled via MS Teams on 13 June 2025. We will hold your details for 6 months if you wish to be on a reserve list, with potential for alternative posts.

Contract Length

Up to 31/05/2027
