Job summary
Here at the CAMHS PICU, the nursing team will be at the heart of the unit and are central to inpatient care delivery. You will work alongside a dedicated and robust multidisciplinary team to ensure that quality care is planned for and achieved. There are opportunities to develop your nursing career at any stage, whether you are a newly qualified nurse seeking to build a foundation in inpatient mental health care or an experienced nurse looking for new challenges. We aim to recruit nurses from diverse fields, including mental health, learning disability, and paediatric nursing, to deliver holistic care.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the nursing team, you will be supported to work collaboratively with young people and their families to build therapeutic relationships, alongside other professionals involved in their care. Training and supervision will be provided to develop both individual and group therapeutic skills. We pride ourselves on nurturing and supporting nurses to deliver professional, compassionate, high-quality care when young people need it most. We also encourage nurses to develop leadership skills for managing shifts, team coordination, and supervising junior staff. Reflection on practice is vital for development, with structured weekly reflective spaces available for support and supervision. Nurses are encouraged to develop specialist interests and participate in research, service improvement, and innovative care delivery for adolescents.

Job description & responsibilities
Opportunities to develop nursing skills at any career stage are available. The unit has a structured weekly timetable of reflective spaces for support and development. Providing consistent, round-the-clock inpatient care is essential.
* Engage proactively with young people and families to build positive relationships.
* Conduct comprehensive assessments within the CPA framework, considering all aspects of the young person's life, including history, strengths, mental state, social needs, risk, family, complex needs, and legal assessments.
* Develop and review risk management plans collaboratively.
* Coordinate care resources with the Care Coordinator, including housing, social welfare, leisure, and education.
* Support family involvement in care.
* Demonstrate knowledge of medication management and physical monitoring skills.
* Work with young people to promote patient choice and manage concordance issues.
* Engage with advocacy services as appropriate.
* Implement and evaluate care plans, promoting ongoing improvement.
* Model healthy behaviours and develop multidisciplinary relationships.
* Communicate effectively in team settings and documentation.
* Participate in co-facilitating therapeutic groups and developing behavioural support plans.
