Legal Secretary - Private Client Advisory
Birketts LLP is a full‑service law firm in the UK with more than 700 lawyers. The Private Client Advisory team currently includes more than 50 specialist lawyers and is one of the largest teams in the East of England, now growing into the South West.
Purpose of the job
You will work in the Private Client team to provide professional, proactive, high‑level secretarial support on a broad range of issues relating to estates and private property, tax and planning. You will work with an allocated fee earner or group of fee earners as well as supporting the wider fee‑earning team.
The team covers
* Succession planning
* Creation, administration and termination of trusts
* Advice to trustees and beneficiaries
* Trust taxation
* Offshore trusts
* Lasting powers of attorney
* Administration of estates
Accountabilities
* Produce and amend documents with speed and accuracy
* Format, paginate, number and present documents in Birketts LLP house style
* Proofread all work, checking for spelling and grammar
* Use key software packages and maintain training to improve relevant skills
* Work proactively with fee earners to ensure relevant documentation is produced to meet client expectations and deadlines
* Show a positive approach and interest in the work of fee earners
* Show initiative when responding to queries and actively seek solutions to problems
* Support fee earners when clients demand timely work product
* Build working relationships with fee earners, team members and the wider secretarial team

* Strong administration experience
* Positive, enthusiastic and professional approach
* Strong attention to detail, high level organisational skills and reliability
* Self‑motivated and willing to learn
* Desire to share new processes with the wider team
* Experience within the legal sector
Skills
* Typing speed of at least 50 wpm
* Excellent spelling and punctuation
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Discretion and IT proficiency (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
* Positive team‑work attitude and good telephone manner
* Adaptability, flexibility and proactive support to fee earners
