A bit about the role
The job holder will have full accountability for food safety, quality, and hygiene matters on shift. They will lead and coordinate the quality assurance and hygiene teams to deliver service improvements aligned with operational needs regarding safety, quality, environment, and legality.
As the most senior shift contact for technical matters, you will manage reactive, proactive, and continuous improvements to ensure the best food safety and quality for our customers.
Through leadership of a team of Quality Assurance & Process Leads and hygiene operatives, provide support to the Production and other teams in achieving Site Quality and Hygiene Objectives.
Responsibilities include:
* Managing a team of Quality Assurance & Process Leads and Hygiene operatives, including shift coverage, absence management, and return-to-works.
* Developing team skills and behaviors to fulfill their roles effectively.
* Ensuring delivery of the quality management system, including audits and microbiological monitoring.
* Supporting external audits and compliance with customer requirements.
* Monitoring KPIs, investigating issues, and adjusting team activities to meet targets.
* Leading compliance or business improvement projects within deadlines.
* Maintaining a safe working environment and meeting H&S standards.
* Proactively solving and preventing issues with root cause analysis and preventative actions.
* Providing leadership to ensure engagement and performance within the hygiene team.
* Reviewing hygiene activities for continuous improvement and innovation.
* Risk assessing and releasing products according to accepted practices.
* Escalating food safety issues per guidelines.
Candidate profile:
* Experience in food quality and hygiene, preferably in human-grade food manufacturing.
* Solution-oriented with strong organization and attention to detail.
* Motivated to build and develop the role.
* Ability to prioritize and own responsibilities.
* Excellent stakeholder relationship skills.
* Previous leadership experience preferred.
* Love for dogs is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills:
* Food degree or equivalent, with knowledge of HACCP and food hygiene.
* Experience with internal audits, pest control, and microbiological hygiene.
* Health & Safety certification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
* Proficiency in Google or Microsoft Office.
* Understanding of weight legislation and technical KPIs.
* Root cause analysis skills.
