The Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Animal Keeper to join our dedicated animal team. This is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking individual with hands-on animal care experience who is passionate about maintaining excellent welfare standards and contributing to a dynamic zoological collection.
Key Responsibilities
Delivering high standards of daily husbandry across a mixed-species section
Preparing and distributing diets in accordance with established feeding protocols
Maintaining clean, safe, and enriched enclosures
Monitoring animal health and behaviour, reporting concerns promptly
Assisting with veterinary procedures when required
Contributing to enclosure maintenance and development
Engaging with visitors through talks, presentations, and positive public interaction
Supporting conservation, training, and enrichment initiatives
Essential Requirements
Minimum one year of practical experience working with animals (zoo, wildlife park, farm, or similar setting)
A strong understanding of animal welfare and husbandry principles
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
Full, clean UK driving licence
Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and in all weather conditions
Desirable
DMZAA qualification (Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals) or working towards
Experience working with a range of taxa
Basic maintenance or practical skills
