Job Introduction
Are you a graduate in a Computer Science or IT-related subject and keen to kick-start your career in ICT? We have an exciting opportunity to join one of our ICT Business Systems Support Teams at Solihull Council. These teams provide a comprehensive range of ICT support services to the Council and its partners, including the support, development, and maintenance of a wide range of corporate and departmental application systems.
Building on your existing IT knowledge and with training provided by the Council, you will support one or more of the Council's ICT business application systems, investigating and resolving service desk calls raised by customers. You will also undertake systems administration tasks such as user access management, system configuration changes, and database refresh activities, ensuring that system documentation is kept up to date.
There will be opportunities to get involved in ICT development work such as integrations, interfaces, and report development, as well as system upgrades and patches. You will have opportunities to grow your knowledge and experience, including training in new technologies as these arise.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide support for one or more ICT business application systems, investigating and resolving service desk calls.
* Perform systems administration, including user access management, configuration changes, and database refresh activities.
* Ensure system documentation is created, maintained, and kept up to date.
* Contribute to development activities, including integrations, interfaces, report development, upgrades, and patches.
* Take part in and contribute to team, project, and divisional meetings.
* Support other team members and take on tasks as directed.
* Use business systems knowledge to support other teams within ICT as required.
* Advise and support business customers on the use of the systems supported by the team.
* Follow all processes and procedures used within the team, the division, and the wider Council.
What You'll Bring
* A degree with a significant IT or Computer Science component.
* A broad understanding of Information Technology, including information systems concepts, software, databases, and web technologies.
* Experience of programming and writing SQL.
* Knowledge of or experience with testing techniques.
* Knowledge of or experience with systems administration.
* Strong Microsoft 365 skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with customers of varying technical abilities.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
* Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Proactive, with the ability to use your own initiative to solve problems.

Our Smarter Ways of Working approach recognises that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go. For this role, this is likely to include a combination of working from home and from our offices in central Solihull. Please note: you will work from the office initially until you have gained sufficient experience and knowledge to enable you to work remotely.
