We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our administrative teamwithin our Cancer Pharmacy Team. This pivotal role is key to ensuring that the correct chemotherapy drugs are available in time for the patient to receive chemotherapy treatment. You will need to possess good communication and interpersonal skills as an important element to this role is the liaison between pharmacists, clinicians and the drug suppliers. This busy role will require you to be highly organised, have attention to detail and possess the ability to work individually as well as part of a larger team. Main duties of the job

As a member of the Pharmacy team you will provide comprehensive administrative support using our software packages, EPR and ARIA, to ensure that our cancer patients are able to receive their chemotherapy on time.

You will liaise between clinicians and pharmacists ensuring that chemotherapy prescriptions have been updated and signed off in a timely manner.

You will participate in cover arrangements of any member of the team, for training, annual leave or sick leave, as required and possibly across sites.

Job responsibilities

Use electronic software packages (eg ARIA, electronic patient records) to co-ordinate the screening and delivery of chemotherapy and support medications. Ensuring patients prescriptions are prescribed, screened, and either dispensed or sent to third party providers, within a timely manner and in line with patients treatment dates and department procedures.

To respond to patients queries in a timely and professional manner and maintain composure at all times when dealing with emotionally distressed patients and their relatives.

Be proactive in liaising with doctors and pharmacists, by communicating effectively to ensure that all chemotherapy is prescribed and screened within a timely manner and in line with department guidelines.

Liaise daily with pharmacists, technician team and external chemotherapy providers to ensure efficient service delivery.

Work with pharmacy, DTU staff and external providers to minimise wastage.

Attend meetings as required to ensure awareness of any potential medications that need chasing up and following these up.

Support Pharmacy with database input and with any audits that need to be undertaken.

To have a clear understanding of our policies and procedures and to participate in the implementation of department policies and service development.

To comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records and legislation issued in relation to confidential data.

Maintain key links and good working relationships with all staff across sites and external providers.

To participate in cover arrangements of Pharmacy Chemo Coordinator roles during leave/training etc and potentially work on another site. To participate in cover arrangements of the Cancer Pharmacy Assistant as appropriate.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Good general level of education (e.g. 5 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent)
* EPR / Aria trained


Experience

* Previous experience of working with the public
* Previous experience within the NHS/public sector
* Knowledge of medical terminology

* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels
* Ability to prioritise
* Ability to cope effectively under pressure
