Summary of the role/position
We are seeking a flexible and adaptable mental health & ASC/ ADHD mentor to join our dedicated DSA team. The role involves providing mental health mentoring and support for Autistic students or students with ADHD, helping them manage their mental health or conditions related to their academic progress. The goal is to promote independent learning and self-management strategies. The team is part of the University's Wellbeing and Welfare Service, which includes Psychological Therapies, AccessAbility, and Welfare services.
This is a term-time contract, paid over 52 weeks, with an anticipated 21.56 hours per week, primarily during university term time. Flexible working patterns are available, and part-time hours will be considered.
About you
You should be a qualified and experienced mental health professional with core training in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy, and accredited with relevant bodies such as HCPC, NMC, BABCP, BACP, or UKCP. You must have significant experience supporting individuals with mental health disabilities and qualifications supporting students with Autism and ADHD. You need to meet the 2023 DSA DfE Mandatory Criteria for Band 4 Specialist Mentor.
The role requires close collaboration with the Wellbeing Service, university staff, and external agencies (e.g., GP, mental health services, voluntary sector). A commitment to inclusive practice and widening access is essential.
