Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Dumfries, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Assistant Management Accountant for a 3-6 contract on a rate of £ £21.47/hour. This role will be hybrid based, with flexibility to work from home.
Responsibilities:
* As Senior Assistant Management Accountant, responsible for providing guidance and support to Management Accounting Assistants and co-ordination and prioritisation of workload and responsibilities.
* Overall review of management accounting teams financial information including support to Finance Manager in completion of corporate monitoring information, overall team information and ensuring monitoring timescales are adhered to and all reporting achieved is to a good quality. Review of all budget areas which team is responsible for, completion of variance analysis, ensure all accruals, budget adjustments, monthly reporting is complete for team.
* Responsible for the provision of high quality financial advice and support to General Managers, Heads of Department, Budget Managers and other Managers across a range of specialities, departments and localities.
* To participate actively as a member of the clinical management teams, working closely with the Managers and providing financial support in all aspects of the service operation including preparation of business plans, costing of services developments/bids and being proactive in suggesting ways in which the service can improve value for money and efficiency.
* Providing up to date financial forecasts on year end position in line with the quarterly review of outturn position. Prepare financial projections taking into account known service changes and making appropriate assumptions on financial judgements on the cost of staffing and supplies.
* Promotion of financial awareness to non finance staff and provide sound financial advice and information to the General Managers and Managers to facilitate planning, decision making, control and the delivery of service within available resources.
* Preparation of costing information for use in business cases, projects and new developments and ad hoc requests to support managerial decision making. Develop costing work for Integrated Resource Framework under direction of Finance Manager.
* Able to negotiate and reach agreement with third parties for recovery of income due to the Board.
* To prepare monthly statements for Budget Managers including both financial and nonfinancial information, reporting on the current financial position and preparing accurate forecast out-turn projections.
* To provide support and advice to Budget Managers in managing budgets and financial processes throughout the year, through the provision of timely, quality information, advice and training, and through ensuring they are aware of and work financial policies and procedures.
* Analysis and preparation of schedules to provide accurate costings and annual budgets for budget setting process, to support the production of expenditure plan.
* Produce on a monthly basis for review by Divisional Finance Manager, financial information for the production of budget reports incorporating the following tasks:
* Analysis of variances
* Adjusting and correcting expenditure by journal entry
* Calculation and preparation of accruals journals as required
* Preparation of budget journals
* Identifying funding sources from Board reserves
* Phasing of budget input
* Production and distribution of monthly budget statements
* Reconciliation of budget adjustments processed through ledger to spreadsheet
* Investigation and analysis of transactions processed through financial ledger and payroll system
* Preparation of year end expenditure forecasts on a monthly basis
* Review of budgets throughout the year to ensure they reflect planned service levels and report any variance
* Responsible for the preparation and consolidation of costs and activity data for the Costs analysis and financial returns for designated budget area.
* Working with Budget Managers to support service redesign, required to identify and propose potential improvements in systems, processes and procedures within designated budgetary area.
* Support Finance Managers and other Senior Finance staff and Budget Managers in project work.
* Assist in the preparation, maintenance and review of statutory annual accounts.
* Required to operate within Standing Financial Instructions (SFI's) and work in liaison with Internal Audit to support the implementation and operation of robust financial processes with Budget Managers in designated budgetary areas.
* Attend regular budget meetings in role of financial advisor, building relationships with Budget Holders to ensure agreement and co operation is reached with them in overcoming barriers of understanding when explaining financial issues to non-finance staff.
Essential Skills:
* HND or AAT technician level or similar
* Degree or equivalent experience or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification
* Excellent written communication skills e.g. writing reports, business plans etc.
* Excellent verbal communication skills e.g. able to present straightforward financial information at performance reviews
* Good computing knowledge and good keyboard skills
* Good numerical ability
* Extensive knowledge of excel or similar spreadsheet package essential
* Speed and accuracy are essential
* Spreadsheet preparation, analysis and presentation
* Tact and persuasive communication skills required to convey and interpret information
* 3 years management accounts experience in equivalent sized organisation
* Accounting knowledge commensurate with qualification
* Understanding accounting concepts
* Extensive knowledge of excel or similar spreadsheet package
* Self motivated and enthusiastic
* Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary in communicating with all staff up to Director level
* Ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure
* Ability to prioritise workload
* Ability to work independently under own initiative
Desirable Skills:
* Other training to support the management accounting role
* Understanding of finance IT systems including reporting hierarchies
