Responsibilities
* Function at a higher competency level than other Health Care Support Workers, actively participating as part of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team within the Emergency Department to provide seamless service to patients and relatives.
* Work under proximal supervision from a Registered Practitioner, carrying out assigned clinical tasks involving direct patient care and associated administrative duties.
* Deliver clinical and therapeutic care within set protocols and within the scope of the SHCSW, under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Practitioner.
* Organise and prioritise time and work activities effectively.
* Contribute to the delivery of nursing care ensuring the highest possible standard under supervision of Registered Practitioners.
* Undertake delegated clinical care duties, record patients’ observations and collect specimens and samples as instructed.
* Assess patients’ conditions through basic test results and clinical observations, under supervision and appropriate delegation from the Registered Practitioner.
* Ensure care is documented accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with Trust policy.
* Treat patients and relatives with courtesy, respect their needs, and promote privacy and dignity.
* Maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents and complaints, and respect patient confidentiality.
* Promote and participate in health education.
* Participate in departmental and nursing team development activities.
* Assist with the reception of patients in the clinical area and liaison with the Emergency Department Registered Practitioner.
* Provide assistance with patients’ activities of daily living.
* Support the creation of an environment that meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
* Escort or support relatives within the department and to the mortuary.
* Act as a mentor to junior staff.
* Provide support to colleagues as required, recognising workload and offering assistance.
