Job Summary
This role is within the Green Paper for Transforming children and young people's mental health programme. The post holder will work within the Harrow Mental Health Support Team providing short-term evidence-based interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate anxiety, depression and/or behavioural difficulties and their parent(s)/carer(s). The post holder will work with children, young people and parents of diverse cultural backgrounds, using interpreters when necessary, and will be committed to equal opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Form strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
* Work in partnership with schools, colleges and other educational settings.
* Provide training to team members, other professionals and trainees.
* Supervise junior staff, including Trainee and Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners.
* Manage referrals, undertake clinical telephone triage and face‑to‑face assessment, give advice and signpost young people where appropriate.
* Deliver evidence‑based 1‑1 and group interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health issues.
* Support the senior mental health lead in developing whole‑school or college approaches to wellbeing.
* Provide timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist services to help children and young people stay in education.
* Ensure accurate and timely documentation to a high standard, completing Routine Outcome Measures.
* Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service and feeding back this data to key stakeholders.
* Contribute to group supervision spaces and support senior clinical supervisors and service development leads to expand the service within the Harrow area.
* Develop and deliver interventions in education settings, including SEN settings.
* Appropriately raise and report safeguarding concerns where identified and support colleagues with this process.
* Join the duty rota for the service.
Patient Safety
* Safeguard people by recognising and responding to risk from abuse, escalating concerns when necessary.
* Act as effective advocates for service users.
* Maintain accurate, legible, comprehensive records and comply with mandatory training requirements.
* Follow policies on fire, lone working, health & safety, absence management, and report incidents per procedures.
* Support a safe, effective service and a positive experience for young people and families.
Qualifications – Essential
* Relevant professional qualification in a mental health discipline (e.g., Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Music Therapy, LD Nursing) or substantial experience qualified as an EMHP or CWP.
* Additional qualifications or training in child and adolescent mental health obtained through study.
* Registration with a relevant professional body.
* Willingness to complete EMHP Supervisor training.
* Substantial consolidated experience in child and adolescent mental health.
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary or multi‑agency team.
* Good understanding of child and adolescent mental health services, conditions and safeguarding legislation.
* Experience supervising or training junior employees.
* Extensive delivery of evidence‑based interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural problems to CYP individually, parent(s)/carer(s) and in groups.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Formal CBT training or postgraduate accredited CBT training.
* Accredited courses or workshops in CYP‑IAPT principles.
* EMHP supervisor training.
* Knowledge and experience in mental‑health promotion work.
* Experience working with schools to support CYP emotional wellbeing.
* Experience running therapy groups and/or training events.
* Access to a vehicle for travel.
Clinical Skills
* Carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children and young people.
* Conduct mental health assessments of children and young people.
* Work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness among staff.
* Assess risk and record and communicate it appropriately.
* Deliver psycho‑educational workshops and mental health consultation for education staff.
* Provide group parenting programmes.
Knowledge
* Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
* Knowledge of quality improvement and patient experience.
* Familiarity with the Mental Health Act and safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures.
* Awareness of specialist CAMHS team operation.
