Within children’s services at Cambridge University Hospitals we are dedicated to providing specialist, professional care to our patients and their families in a welcoming and committed atmosphere. We have an ethos of child centred care.

We are seeking to recruit an orthopaedic clinical nurse specialist, on a secondment contract, for our children and young people’s service within CUH. The role will be supporting elective and non-elective surgery and working across the inpatient and outpatient setting. The post offers many opportunities to develop and shape the service, in addition to contributing to the senior nursing team across the trust.


Main duties of the job

As a clinical nurse in the service you will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills as well as leading and influencing change. You will be motivated to make a positive difference to the child and carers experience, maximising effective patient pathways and flow.

You will ensure collaborative partnership working across teams in promoting service development for future expansion of Children’s Services, looking ahead to the Cambridge Childrens Hospital.

Working alongside the other members of the multidisciplinary team you will be responsible for coordinating a comprehensive, integrated, service. You will provide specialist clinical skills and will liaise with all relevant professional groups and agencies within and outside the Trust to enhance the delivery of care to children, young people and families with orthopaedic conditions, providing guidance, support and advice.

Please note: Internal applicants on permanent contracts can only apply for this post as a secondment and must have the approval of your current line manager before applying.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

RSCN/ RN Child

First Degree (or equivalent level experience) in nursing or health-related subject

Teaching and Assessing qualification

Evidence of on-going CPD


Desirable criteria

Post-graduate Masters

Counselling qualification

Non-medical prescriber

Advanced communication skills


Experience


Essential criteria

Experience in orthopaedic / trauma care

Working with acute and chronically ill children and young people

Evidence of having worked collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues / students and involvement in mentorship

Community experience


Desirable criteria

Experience in caring for children with orthopaedic conditions, and their families

Evidence of publications in nursing journals


Knowledge


Essential criteria

•Recent developments in orthopaedic / trauma care

•Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Children Act

•Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the National Service Framework

•Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Every Child Matters
