Caretaker (Temporary with Potential to Become Permanent)

Location: MaidenheadSalary: SCP 8 – SCP 12 (dependent on experience)Start Date: As soon as possible

An opportunity has arisen for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join a dedicated team and support the day-to-day running of a school site. The role will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As a SEND school supporting children with autism, the organisation is seeking an individual who aligns with its values and is committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for pupils and staff.

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Caretaker will play a key role in maintaining the school premises and ensuring a safe and well-presented environment. Responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks (e.g. painting, minor plumbing, woodwork) 
• Undertaking daily health and safety checks and ensuring compliance with school policies 
• Monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards across the site 
• Conducting routine inspections (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting, water safety, PAT testing) 
• Supporting with site security, including opening and locking the premises.
• Assisting with grounds maintenance such as grass cutting and general upkeep 
• Responding to emergencies and ensuring the site remains safe at all times 
• Liaising with contractors and supporting with deliveries and movement of equipment

Desirable (but not essential)

• Previous experience in a caretaking or maintenance role
• Knowledge of working within a school or facilities environment
• Relevant training (e.g. PAT testing, fire safety, manual handling)
