Caretaker (Temporary with Potential to Become Permanent)
Location: MaidenheadSalary: SCP 8 – SCP 12 (dependent on experience)Start Date: As soon as possible
An opportunity has arisen for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join a dedicated team and support the day-to-day running of a school site. The role will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
As a SEND school supporting children with autism, the organisation is seeking an individual who aligns with its values and is committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for pupils and staff.
About the Role
Reporting to the Site Manager, the Caretaker will play a key role in maintaining the school premises and ensuring a safe and well-presented environment. Responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks (e.g. painting, minor plumbing, woodwork)
- Undertaking daily health and safety checks and ensuring compliance with school policies
- Monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards across the site
- Conducting routine inspections (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting, water safety, PAT testing)
- Supporting with site security, including opening and locking the premises.
- Assisting with grounds maintenance such as grass cutting and general upkeep
- Responding to emergencies and ensuring the site remains safe at all times
- Liaising with contractors and supporting with deliveries and movement of equipment

- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, Health & Safety standards
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
- Previous experience in a caretaking or maintenance role
- Knowledge of working within a school or facilities environment
- Relevant training (e.g. PAT testing, fire safety, manual handling)
