Applications are invited for the above post for this 660 bedded acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
This an exciting time to join the Imaging department at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, which has now merged with Bedford Hospital to form the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Imaging department has been rated excellent and well led by the CQC and an exemplar unit by GIRFT.
Bedfordshire hospitals imaging department is a friendly and cohesive team offering a high quality patient centred service with a broad range of specialities across the two sites.
We are looking for a dynamic radiologist with a progressive attitude, to support the local breast and chest services. This is a full-time post, but those wishing to work less-than full time will also be considered equally.
The post is primarily based at Luton Hospital, but there may be a requirement to cover session at Bedford, particularly during leave periods. Databases and participate in relevant Registries and research.
The applicant will also be expected to contribute to some of the general reporting workload and may also support MDTs with sufficient time for MDT preparation.
Home working is actively supported. All consultants have home reporting equipment including voice recognition software.
Main duties of the job
The Key tasks for the role of Locum Consultant in Breast & General Radiology:
1. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.
2. To deliver a high quality breast and General diagnostic imaging service.
3. To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department the management of all patients referred to the Trust.
4. To participate in the delivery of on-call
5. Teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students. In addition the post holder will support Clinical Nurse Specialists, radiographers and sonographers.
6. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
7. To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

Qualifications
Essential criteria
8. Medical Degree
9. FRCR or Equivalemt
Desirable criteria
10. MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
Registration
Essential criteria
11. Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
12. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register: CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) CESR (or within 6 months at time of applying)
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
13. Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Breast General Radiology.
14. Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.
15. Excellent all round experience of DGH work
Desirable criteria
16. Experience in other specialist imaging and involvement in other specialist MDT
Clinical Effectiveness
Essential criteria
17. Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD.
18. Experience of guideline appraisal.
19. Participation in relevant local audits.
20. Ability to interpret and apply clinical research.
Desirable criteria
21. Participation in relevant national audits.
Personnel Circumstances
Essential criteria
22. Residence within 10 miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital for purposes of on-call emergencies.
23. Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
24. Satisfactory DBS clearance
Teaching
Essential criteria
25. Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students.
26. Understands learner centred teaching
27. Teaching ability and experience in conducting clinical/radiological meetings
Desirable criteria
28. Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course.
