Posted: 18h ago
Offer description

You will be assisting the Finds Liaison Officers (FLO) at Lancashire County Museum Service in a cataloguing project called the Portable Antiquities Scheme. This scheme encourages the voluntary recording of archaeological objects, found by members of the public, thereby increasing our knowledge about the history of our towns and countryside. The FLO is qualified to examine the find/object and provide the finder with more information about the object. They also record the find and its function, date, material and location, and place this information into a nationwide database which can be analysed and the information used by academics, museums and local historians.

Many previously unknown archaeological sites have been identified through the Portable Antiquities Scheme and it has contributed greatly to the level of knowledge of the past in Lancashire & Cumbria.
