Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and Recovery Practitioner

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based patient care. Clinical expertise is utilised during the immediate post operative period within PACU and Recovery. Skilled assistance is provided in the post operative care of the patient. These skills are also employed in other satellite areas e.g. Obstetrics and Ophthalmology.

The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, meeting the needs of the patient whilst under no direct supervision. Assist in the management and organisation of clinical and satellite areas, implementing improvementsto working practices as identified by audit/clinical trials. Participate in the education and development of other staff members


Main duties of the job

The Main duties of the job are:

* To take responsibility for a patient or a defined group of patients as delegated.
* To demonstrate an ability to undertake comprehensive holistic assessments and care of patients requiring advanced post operative care (up to Level 1plus Critical Care).
* Continually assess the patient's condition throughout the post-operative period ,anticipating any changes to the patient's care that is necessary.
* Plan and prioritise the care and needs of the patient and evaluate their response to deliver the highest standard of care.
* Ensure continuity of care through the peri-operative period, communicating information effectively (both written and verbal) with the relevant disciplines within the theatre department and other clinical areas.
* Identify when the patient has met the criteria for safe transfer safely back to the source ward apart from PACU patients. The post holder is responsible for recognising and alerting the clinical team when a patient requires a higher level of support e.g. transfer to Intensive Care.
* To facilitate discharge home of PACU patients as per guidelines. PACU patients requiring further post-operative care, to liaise with discharge co-ordinator when transfer toward/HDU is required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification


Qualifications and/or Knowledge

* NMC Registred Nurse/HCPC Registered Operating Practitioner
* Teaching/Mentoring/Assessing Qualification
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Immediate Life Support


Experience

* Previous experience of working within a theatre environment
* Experience in a wide variety of clinical specialities within the operating department


Values

* Respectfull of others
* Act with understanding of other peoples difficulties


Other

* Must be able to participate on night shift rota
* Ability to speak Welsh


Aptitude and Abilities

* Able to consistently demonstrate high quality patient care

£31,516 to £38,364 a yearper annum pro rata
