Overview
Here within the Cancer Nursing Team we are looking to recruit a dynamic Band 6 Urology cancer nurse for 24hrs per week. This will be based at York Hospital but may be required to travel the hospital footprint.
The role requires a registered nurse who can work autonomously within their scope of practice and the job description and support the team to deliver safe effective care to our patients. Furthermore, the appointee must be equipped with excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, patients, and allied healthcare providers.
You must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, organised, computer literate and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to continued personal development.
You MUST hold a valid UK NMC pin for this role. Inconsistencies in registration details will result in your application not being progressed.
The principal role of the post holder is to work within a high-quality specialist service to meet the needs of the patient with a urological cancer.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist knowledge and information resources for multi-disciplinary staff, colleagues, patients and families. Support the physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients who have diagnosis of a urological cancer.
* The post holder along with the rest of the CNS team will work to deliver evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
* Provide a professional, proactive and sensitive service to cancer patients and their relatives.
* Act as a main point of contact for patients, carers and wider healthcare team to provide high quality patient care through proactive identification of needs which require a level of clinical knowledge utilising approved tools and procedures.
* Collaborate and communicate with the wider healthcare team acting as a resource to ensure the provision of appropriate services to maximise the health and quality of life of the patient, improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
* Be responsible for the coordination of the administrative function within the complex cancer pathways arranging investigations, appointments and Multi-Disciplinary Team discussion in a timely manner to ensure waiting time targets are not breached and patient’s needs are met.
Qualifications
* Registered nurse with current UK NMC pin.
* Ability to work autonomously within scope of practice and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse clinicians, patients and families.
* Computer literate and committed to ongoing professional development.
* Experience in oncology/cancer services is desirable.
