The Role
As a Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for driving engineering excellence across one of TCS’s key accounts within Retail domain. Leveraging your strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and communication skills, you will define and implement engineering standards and best practices that elevate delivery quality. In close collaboration with the client’s engineering leadership, you will shape and promote a culture of engineering excellence, ensuring consistent adoption across teams. Your role will be pivotal in fostering continuous improvement, cross-team collaboration, and knowledge sharing to enhance the overall effectiveness of engineering outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
* Define and document clear, measurable standards for engineering excellence, working with the TCS Engineering Office on the account. This includes coding standards, architecture principles, design patterns, quality assurance processes, and testing and deployment expectations.
* Establish frameworks and guidelines for code reviews, testing strategies, and software development lifecycle methodologies.
* Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to drive the adoption of engineering excellence standards across all engineering teams.
* Partner with account and TCS engineering leadership to integrate engineering excellence principles into project planning, execution, and delivery.
* Monitor and measure the adoption rate and effectiveness of engineering excellence initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and adjustment.
* Facilitate regular forums and workshops for TCS engineers to share experiences, learn from each other, and contribute to the evolution of engineering standards.
* Promote a culture of open communication, feedback, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
* Encourage participation in industry conferences, workshops, and online communities to stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices.
* Establish mechanisms for gathering feedback on engineering standards and processes, refining, and improving them based on real-world experience.
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
* Extensive work experience in software engineering or a related field, with a proven record of driving engineering excellence initiatives.
* Deep understanding of software development best practices, coding standards, architecture principles, and quality assurance methodologies.
* Experience in leading organisational change and driving the adoption of new processes and technologies.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
* Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
* Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
* Familiarity with agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
* Experience within Retail industry will be good to have
