Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join Putney & Roehampton Integrated Recovery Team. We will also consider Band 5’s who have completed their Preceptorship and are looking to transition to a Band 6 role through our Preceptorship Plus programme. This satisfying and rewarding role sits within our Community Service Line, which includes all community based mental health teams, such as our Integrated Recovery Hubs, Recovery and Support Teams and Early Intervention services.

Our teams are expanding with new and exciting roles post‑Transformation, providing an environment in which Occupational Therapists (OTs) can fully use their innovation and creativity to support clients with complex mental health needs to recover and step down from Mental Health Services. We use the Model of Human Occupation to provide standardised assessments and a manualised evidence‑based intervention called GLOW (Graduated Living Outside of the Ward). We also have an 8‑week group intervention based on Recovery Through Activity to promote recovery goals and stepping down from services, and we train all community OTs in Sensory Profiling to support clients with additional sensory needs. The OT works closely with MDT colleagues, including Recovery Support Workers, Employment Specialists, and the Involvement Team, to support occupational goals and promote service‑user engagement.

Responsibilities

* Manage an OT caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence‑based and client‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
* Complete standardised assessments using The Model of Human Occupation and other frameworks agreed by the Therapy Leads.
* Offer manualised interventions, both group and individual, e.g., GLOW and IPEL (Increasing Participation in Everyday Life).
* Provide Sensory Profiling to clients with sensory challenges.
* Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of OT services within the Community Team, and hold responsibility for defined projects.
* Engage with the OT referrals process, identifying and prioritising the need for OT‑specific interventions.
* Provide leadership to junior staff through supervision and appraisal.
* Regularly supervise OT students on practice placement (expected standard is two students per year).
* Provide professional leadership to the Recovery Support Workers and engage in co‑working pathways.
* Promote recovery and social inclusion.
* Work alongside the Involvement Team to actively promote service‑user engagement and co‑production.
* Collaborate with the Employment Specialist in the team to enhance a positive vocational outcome for clients.
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service.
* Streamline work from admission to discharge in keeping with the Adult Services Recovery Care pathway.
* Advocate for and promote the contribution of occupational therapy as a valuable resource in helping people manage the impact of their symptoms on daily occupations.
* Act as the designated ‘Disability Champion’, leading the multi‑disciplinary team in Disability Equality matters within the service and other areas as required.

EEO & Diversity Statement

At South West London St Georges Mental Health Trust we are committed to providing services that embrace diversity and promote equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and people of all protected characteristics. We are a Disability‑Committed Employer and are members of Stonewall Diversity Champions and the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion. Consequently, we offer reasonable adjustments to the interview process for candidates with a disability and support the Armed Forces Community under the Armed Forces Covenant.

Application Process

* Closing date listed is a guide only; the vacancy may close earlier if sufficient applications are received.
* Once submitted, your application may be transferred to a third‑party e‑recruitment system.
* If you have not heard from us within three weeks of the closing date, your application has not been successful.
* Priority consideration for applications may be given to at‑risk NHS employees.
* Should you be successful, the Trust will confirm your previous NHS service via an Inter‑Authority Transfer (IAT) process.
* Employment is offered subject to the successful completion of a probationary period, dependent on band (except medical roles).
* The Trust is smoke‑free.
