Younity Hub at Wilfred Spencer offers a day opportunity for adults with learning disabilities
This is an exciting opportunity to join and work alongside a team of support assistants providing activities throughout the day, either centre-based or in the local community. You need to be enthusiastic, creative and caring with confidence to plan and run meaningful activities.
We work to maximise the opportunities, choices, and independence for all service users we support with a non-judgemental approach. Our goal is to provide a high standard of care for everyone who accesses the service, promoting dignity, respect, and independence always.
You will be supported by a Senior Support Assistant who will be your line manager to support with training and development, and understanding how policies and procedures are being met.
We are recruiting 4 posts working from Monday to Friday. The core hours for day opportunities services are between 8:45 - 15:30.
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who can:
1. Achieve meaningful and memorable days for our service users, this will include planning, leading and running any activities.
2. Ensure all support needs are met throughout the day.
3. Create opportunity and choice with dignity and respect.
4. Provide a safe environment where service users' rights and wishes are upheld and listened to.
5. Promote the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual well-being of the people we support, empowering them to fulfil a meaningful life.
6. Follow risk assessment plans.
7. Read Support plans, report and record in systems, and understand data protection of confidential information.
You’ll need
8. Patience and persistence are required to find ways to communicate effectively with service users.
9. Learning ability to understand Support plans and NHS health care assessment plans.
10. A willingness to work in small groups and alone with service users.
11. Be physically able to carry out assessed manual handling, including hoisting, and pushing wheelchairs.
12. To meet the practical and personal care and support needs of individuals we support. This can range from dietary/nutritional to medication needs.
13. To have previous experience of working in health and social care settings is essential, or the relevant level 2 Qualification in social care or aim to achieve a level 2 in social care.
