About Us
Make sure to read the full description below, and please apply immediately if you are confident you meet all the requirements.
We are an independent practice that opened in August 2019. In the last 5 years we have expanded to 5 vets and still have a growing client base. We have 20 - 40 minute appointment times and generous admin time to allow space to work up and follow cases. We are lucky to have such appreciative clients and have only grown our customer base from the word of mouth recommendations. We have tried to set the bar for quality of service but also staff well being. As a small practice all members of staff, reception, nurses and vets, work closely together as a team. Work/life balance is important to us so even full time hours are only 4 days/week with no on call.
We are in the Cornish seaside town of Penryn, located on the edge of Falmouth. We are fortunate enough to be in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. We have almost endless countryside, beaches and coastal walks on our doorstep and in the surrounding area. There is also the vibrant night life in Falmouth and nearby Newquay but it is the access to the outdoors that makes this place so special. All water sports are available with excellent surf beaches and vibrant underwater life easily accessible. This used to be our holiday destination when I was younger and that is exactly why I chose to work here and subsequently setup a practice and settle here with my family. I can't imagine anywhere better to be.
The Role
We are looking for a full or part time compassionate and conscientious small animal vet to join our amazing team. This would mean 3-4 days/week, 1in 4 Saturday mornings (08:30-12:30) and no on call. We are not looking to be a practice with "cheap" prices but we struggle to justify the prices of some neighbouring practices and focus on keeping our prices fair and reasonable. We encourage open communication about estimates and treatment options in all cases and allow time for this in consultations. We are keen to provide the most enjoyable working environment possible and are always open to feedback from all team members. Essentially we are looking to provide modern day medicine whilst retaining old fashioned values and are keen to expand the team with staff that appreciate this approach.
The Package
We ensure ample time for admin, phone calls and lunch breaks. Remuneration is generous but will vary depending on experience. Full time is only 4 days a week. We ensure that at least 1/4 weeks the day off is a Friday to make a long weekend. There is genuine partnership prospects here for any interested candidates. We have ample parking and generous (cost plus vat ) staff discounts.
Salary: £52,000 to £70,000 dependent on experience
Testimonial from Felix, a regular locum for us for several years:
Cornish Paws has lots of windows and couches. If applicable, you can also consult outdoors on the picnic benches in a secured garden. Consultations are 20 minutes and there are catch up periods attached to the end of each session for administrative tasks or if you are running late. Plenty of time to engage with the humans and allow the patients to settle in the consult room. The reception team is capable and empowered to run your day smoothly. The experienced RVN team is positional and role specific for the day. Surgical and in- patients are paired up with the nursing teams. There is a structure for work load and flow. There is enough resources factored in for the expected unexpected cases. Communications between the practice principle, administration and team members are open and approachable. The family owned practice is supportive and protective of team members whilst being caring and fair to the community.
