Job summary
Applications are invited for the above post for this 660‑bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
Join the Imaging department at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, which has now merged with Bedford Hospital to form Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The department has been rated excellent by the CQC and designated as an exemplar site by GIRFT.
Main duties of the job
Key tasks
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.
* Deliver a high‑quality imaging service with a focus on Interventional Radiology.
* Share with colleagues in the Imaging Department the management of all patients referred to the Trust.
* Participate in the general radiology work of the department, including a 1 in 12 on‑call rota (no interventional on‑call currently).
* Support radiographers and sonographers; engage in teaching and training of specialist registrars, junior medical staff, nurses and medical students.
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* Take responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Medical Degree
* FRCR or equivalent
* MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research (desirable)
Registration
* Full GMC registration (GMC Licence to Practice mandatory before employment)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register: CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at interview) or CESR (or within 6 months at interview)
Clinical Effectiveness
* Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD.
* Experience of guideline appraisal.
* Participation in local audits.
* Ability to interpret and apply clinical research.
* Participation in national audits (desirable).
Personnel Circumstances
* Residence within 10 miles by road or up to 30 minutes travelling time of the hospital for on‑call emergencies.
* Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory Occupational Health clearance.
* Satisfactory DBS clearance.
Clinical Experience
* Excellent all‑round experience of DGH work.
* Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in General Radiology.
* Expertise in all aspects of vascular and non‑vascular intervention and reporting.
* Ability to undertake independent interventional work.
* Ability to take full responsibility for clinical work and deliver services without direct supervision.
* Experience in other specialist imaging and involvement in other specialist MDTs (desirable).
Teaching
* Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students.
* Understanding of learner‑centred teaching.
* Teaching ability and experience in conducting clinical/radiology meetings.
* Attendance of Teaching the Teachers or similar course (desirable).
Clinical Governance
* Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.
Personal Skills
* Ability to cooperate in a democratic team environment.
* Flexible attitude, team player with good management skills.
* Leadership skills.
