This role is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives by supporting the delivery of evidence‑based, equitable stop smoking services. The Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner will work across highly deprived areas, ensuring services are flexible, independent and team‑based with training provided to deliver effective interventions.


Key Responsibilities

* Motivate and empower clients to address nicotine dependence.
* Explain the principles of the nicotine and stop smoking service to enable informed choices.
* Deliver evidence‑based stop smoking interventions, including one‑to‑one appointments, drop‑ins, group sessions, telephone and online support, in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme.
* Work with healthcare professionals and community partners to embed smoking cessation into routine client care pathways.
* Maximise health gains and reduce inequalities by using health and equalities data to inform service delivery.
* Provide high‑quality, efficient and cost‑effective services across diverse community settings.
* Lead peer‑support group sessions for quitters post‑intervention to prevent relapse.
* Deliver evidence‑based education on smoking cessation, behavioural change and ongoing motivational support.
* Assist individuals to set realistic and sustainable quit goals.
* Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date client and service records in compliance with ABL Health documentation policies.
* Prioritise competing demands and workloads effectively to achieve service time‑frames.


Qualifications

* Higher level education or a health/social care/public health/professional qualification.
* NCSCT Practitioner qualification.
* Relevant degree (preferred).


Experience

* Experience working in smoking cessation, addiction or behaviour change services.
* Experience working in community settings.
* Experience delivering training to target audiences.
* Experience with national guidance and dissemination of best practice.
* Ability to travel independently across the borough.
* Flexibility to adapt to service needs.


Skills and Knowledge

* Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Positive outlook with the ability to inspire confidence and motivate people.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to influence using skills and knowledge.
* Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
* Understanding of behaviour change concepts and implementation.
* Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
* Understanding of information governance policies.
* Knowledge of the wider tobacco control agenda.
* Understanding of addiction.
