Job Title: Application Scientist Location: Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire Company: Meritics Ltd About the Role Meritics Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Application Scientist to join our small team. This role is central to supporting both pre- and post-sales activities, delivering high-quality laboratory analysis, and ensuring the successful implementation and ongoing support of our instrumentation within customer environments. The successful candidate will combine strong laboratory expertise with excellent communication skills, supporting customers, sales, and service teams while maintaining high technical and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Laboratory & Analytical Work Perform analysis of customer and internal samples using company instrumentation (PSD, particle count, NTA, DLS, gas adsorption, chemisorption, material testing, rheology, power flow etc.) Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely reports of test results. Maintain high standards of laboratory practice in line with CFR Part11 and UKAS-accredited requirements. Assist in developing and refining analytical methods and applications. Create"one-page" application notes for marketing and socialpages content Product Demonstrations & Installations Support and deliver product demonstrations for prospective customers. Assist with installation, commissioning, and user training of instrumentation. Provide on-site and remote post-installation support to ensure successful implementation. Act as a technical expert during customer visits and trials. Customer & Internal Support Provide technical support via telephone and email to customers, as well as internal sales and service teams. Troubleshoot application and method-related issues efficiently. Collaborate closely with sales and serviceto support customer enquiries and opportunities. Occasionally assist in PM / maintenance visits at customer sites Quality & Compliance Support the implementation and maintenance of UKAS-accredited laboratory standards. Ensure all work complies with relevant quality systems and documentation requirements. Maintain accurate laboratory records, including calibration and maintenance logs. Equipment Management Oversee the upkeep, calibration, and performance verification of laboratory equipment. Ensure instruments are maintained to a high standard and are audit-ready at all times. Coordinate servicing and calibration schedules where required. Skills & Experience Essential: Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or similar). Hands-on laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation. Strong understanding of laboratory best practices and quality standards. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and as part of a team. Desirable: Experience working in or with UKAS-accredited laboratories. Experience in customer-facing or technical support roles. Familiarity with instrument installation, validation, or training. Knowledge of calibration procedures and quality systems. High degree of computer literacy Personal Attributes Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality work.
