Job overview The Advanced Biomedical Scientist for Coagulation and Haematology at Barnsley Hospital is, in conjunction with the Lead Haematology and Lead Blood Transfusion BMSs, responsible of the day to day running of the Haematology Laboratory. This includes aspects of of technical expertise, training, Human Resources, stock resources and asset management. The role also extends to the management of the Blood Sciences support workers. Advert The post holder will work with the Blood Sciences management team to provide help and support to all Blood sciences staff. As such the post holder may be required to deputise for the Lead Haematology BMS. Main duties of the role are to provide front line scientific and technical expertise in both the Coagulation and Haematology settings. The post holder will be the first line response to escalated issues raised by all grades of staff and external suppliers. Subjects may include clinical, technical and EQA issues. The post holder will be required to ensure all process and polices are adhered to be staff. The post holder will act as frontline response to all HR aspects of the role including, roster development, training, recruitment and retentions, dealing with personnel issues and sickness management. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The laboratory utilises and Inpeco track system to deliver samples to 4 Siemens Advia 2120 and 2x Stago coagulation analysers. The laboratory is extremely busy and operates a full service until 21:00 Monday to Friday. After this and at weekends an out of hours service is provided to the Trust.
