The UK energy sector is undergoing a seismic shift. Rapidly increasing demand, more stringent regulation, and ambitious net zero targets are driving unprecedented levels of investment and innovation across transmission and distribution. This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the networks that will power the future.
We are keen to speak with Principal, Senior or experienced Overhead Line Design Engineers who are interested in exploring future opportunities aligned with our growth strategy. These roles sit within our Transmission & Distribution team and can be based from any of our UK offices, offering flexibility alongside technically challenging work.
The Role
As an Overhead Line Design Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of a diverse portfolio of OHL projects across the UK. Your work will span the full design lifecycle, including the production and review of technical documentation in accordance with industry standards.
This is a varied and rewarding role that will see you involved in:
* Developing design criteria
* Conductor, structure type and foundation selection
* Insulation coordination and lightning performance studies
You will play a key role in producing core OHL deliverables such as line schedules, plan and profile drawings, staking tables and special crossing designs. You will also undertake feasibility studies to assess the technical and economic viability of proposed schemes and work closely with other engineering disciplines (including civil and structural teams) to ensure holistic and safe design solutions.
About you
You will ideally hold a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or Civil Engineering, or have equivalent industry experience gained through a hands‑on or construction‑based pathway. CEng or IEng status, or progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous.
You will bring experience working as an Overhead Line Design Engineer, or in a closely related role, delivering Transmission and Distribution projects—ideally within a design consultancy, design & build contractor, or for an asset owner. Strong experience using PLS-CADD is essential, covering both new OHL designs and modifications to existing assets, along with a solid understanding of UK design standards and requirements.
It would be beneficial if you also have exposure to complementary T&D disciplines such as HV plant, HV cable design, or T&D civil design. While OHL is your core specialism, a broader technical awareness will be highly valued. Experience managing OHL delivery and workloads across multiple projects is also desirable.
Above all, you will be a collaborative team player, passionate about innovation, technical excellence and client service, with the ambition to help drive the continued growth of our Energy business.
If you feel you meet some—but not all—of the criteria, we would still encourage you to apply. We are committed to growing together and will support your development to help you reach your full potential.
