1:1 Learning Support Assistant – SEN
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive 1:1 Support Assistant to join primary schools across Leeds. In this role, you will provide personalised support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide effective 1:1 support for a child with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, Speech & Language Delay, SEMH)
2. Support the child’s academic progress, social development, and emotional wellbeing
3. Implement tailored strategies and interventions under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
4. Use positive and calm behaviour-management strategies
5. Encourage independence, engagement, and confidence during classroom activities
6. Maintain strong communication with teachers, parents/carers, and external professionals
Requirements
7. Experience supporting children with SEN in a primary school or similar setting (essential)
8. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when working with children
9. Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
10. Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
11. Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 TA, SEN training, or equivalent experience)
12. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
