Job description
Our client, a leading engineering and maintenance provider in the energy sector, is currently seeking an Electrical Design Manager to join their team in Warrington. Our client supports customers across various markets, including chemical & petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals & biopharma, power & energy, utilities, renewables, and food & beverage. They enhance the efficiency of assets, ensuring a high level of availability and reducing maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Managing all designers and engineers within your discipline, including utilisation, holidays, expenses, performance reviews, and time writing
2. Keenly motivating and managing development and training plans for all staff employees in your discipline
3. Reviewing, updating, and implementing all procedures, standards, guidance notes, and forms for your respective discipline
4. Accountable for all recruitment and resourcing of your discipline
5. Accountable for all proposals and estimates for your discipline
6. Managing quality of Engineering and Design in respect to your discipline for both single and multi-discipline projects
7. Appointing capable discipline checkers and approvers
8. Responsible for the Electrical design within multi-discipline engineering, EPCM, or EPC projects
9. Delivering projects across the full lifecycle from concept to commissioning, in both green and brownfield applications
10. Managing and completing the electrical engineering and design within budget and planning, including change control and consistency with other disciplines
11. Being client-facing and managing the client's expectations in relation to the project scope
12. Participating in internal and external design reviews and ensuring design acceptance by the client
13. Making independent decisions on issues and providing expert technical support within electrical engineering
14. Leading projects in a multi-discipline environment and coordinating all electrical engineering and design with other disciplines (Mechanical, Civil and Structural, Process, and Automation)
15. Effectively carrying out, checking, and approving Engineering and Design estimates, controlling, and reporting all costs on allocated projects regarding progress, scope change, and man hours
Job Requirements:
16. Experience as a line manager
17. Experience as Lead Engineer EC&I in multi-discipline projects within an Engineering / EPCM / EPC company
18. Experience in managing and implementing strict quality control and procedures
19. Deep knowledge of EC&I engineering and design, with a sound understanding of other disciplines (Automation, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Process)
20. Ability to forecast and control resources to ensure projects are fully utilised and recruitment is planned
21. MEng / BEng in EC&I Engineering
22. Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
23. Strong understanding of key standards such as 7671, 7430, 61508, 61511, ATEX, DSEAR, LV, and HV
24. Excellent planning and organisational skills
25. Ability to identify growth opportunities within the company
26. Effective delegation skills while maintaining oversight of the EC&I discipline
27. Implementation of solid change control procedures and ability to convince clients of budget and planning consequences of changes
28. Capability to lead and motivate a team to achieve targets, even in the face of setbacks
29. Ability to chair design review meetings
