Applications are invited for the position of Trust Grade Registrar in Anaesthetics & Critical Care at the University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool. This is a 2-year fixed-term position. Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council, possess a licence to practice and have achieved CT1 and CT2 competencies or equivalent. Competence in pre‑ and post‑operative patient care is required. The role requires the ability to work within a busy operating department and critical care unit, working on a 1:8 resident on‑call rota with prospective full‑shift cover, covering ICU or anaesthesia for emergency operations in theatres or obstetrics.
This post requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as it involves access to children or vulnerable adults.
Job Responsibilities
* Provide anaesthesia and critical care for a broad range of surgical specialties including General Surgery, Day‑Case Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Dental & Maxillofacial surgery.
* Work on a 1:8 resident on‑call rota with full‑shift cover, covering ICU or anaesthesia for emergency operations.
* Ensure all duties are carried out to the highest standard and in line with current quality initiatives.
* Day‑to‑day patient management, liaising with the multidisciplinary team.
* Perform administrative duties related to patient care and record keeping.
* Communicate effectively with nursing and professional staff about patient care.
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council (London) with a licence to practice.
* Evidence of completion of basic anaesthesia training.
* Completion of 6‑month basic ICM training.
* Up‑to‑date ALS certification.
* Completion of competencies in obstetric anaesthesia.
* Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Advanced Paediatric Life Support certificates.
Experience
* Good organisational ability and flexibility in team work.
* Effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
* Ability to prioritise workload and recognise own limitations.
* Empathy in communication, including responses to complaints.
* Up‑to‑date with current medical practices.
* Capacity to work effectively under pressure in high‑stress situations.
