NHS Grampian is offering an exciting 12 month secondment opportunity within the General Surgery Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, providing an excellent learning environment for those looking to deepen their expertise in acute abdominal care.
The role presents a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced setting where you will be directly involved in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a wide range of acute abdominal conditions. As part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team, you will gain hands-on experience across multiple patient pathways, including the unscheduled and scheduled pathways, Surgical High Dependency Unit (SHDU), and Surgical Ambulatory Care (SAC) with strong focus on abdominal surgical cases.
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high quality patient care, utilising advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose and manage a variety of complex and interesting surgical conditions. The position requires a strong commitment to patient wellbeing and the ability to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
During your secondment, you will:
* Develop your skills in the assessment, diagnosis and management of a wide variety of acute surgical conditions advancing both your clinical knowledge and hands-on-expertise.
* Grow a high level of knowledge in managing abdominal emergencies.
* Develop and refine your skills in HDU care, providing critical support to patients with complex needs. Including trauma cases, gastrointestinal issues, and post-operative abdominal cases.
* Be offered the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in procedures such as acute abscess drainage, sutures and drain management.
* Contribute to a team that values collaboration, education, and continuous professional development.

The successful candidate will:
* Work alongside an Advanced Nurse practitioner, Foundation Year Doctors and Physician Associates.
* Work collaboratively with the General Surgery Registrars and Consultant Surgeons as well as other Specialist Consultants and General Practitioners (GP’s).
If you hold a PgDip in Advanced Clinical Practice (or equivalent) and have experience working in an ANP role, this secondment position offers an exciting opportunity to further your career and make a significant impact on patient care. With flexible working hours over a 5 days and occasional weekend shifts, you will have the chance to develop your expertise whilst contributing to a supportive and forward thinking team.
