The John Ford Group specialises in the adaptation of houses to make living at home easier for the frail, elderly and those with disabilities – whether it’s a simple alteration or a large-scale complex building conversion, a rapid response self-contained interior pod or an entire garden annexe. Our team react quickly to all enquiries and ‘home from hospital’ referrals, and our specialist fitters work speedily but safely, with minimal disruption to your home and within budget. And always with quality in mind.
All large-scale house extensions, conversions and equipment installations are usually instructed by specialist architects or solicitors and coordinated by our professional construction managers. And we have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards and are regulated by the Chartered Institute of Building so you can buy with confidence. We leave the general building to others, choosing instead to focus on adapting homes, and to that end, we employ a workforce of managers, skilled tradesmen and fitters working across East Anglia as we aim to be the first-choice provider of specialist home adaptations and equipment installations.
Our ethos is based on transparency, honesty and trust and we work with occupational therapists (OTs) to ensure all adaptations are made for the greatest benefit and that no change is made unnecessarily. That is why we are often referred by occupational therapists, case managers, care companies, solicitors and other allied care industry professionals.
But most of our referrals come from recommendations by our customers, for which we are immensely thankful.
By far the most common adaptation involves replacing a bath with a level-access shower to facilitate washing. However many other adaptations can improve access around the home, making daily living easier for all.

Adaptions
Unlike simple adaptations which are normally limited to a single room or area of a home.
John Ford Group Adaptations are usually far greater in size and complexity and will often involve structural alteration and a degree of new build, such as a separate building for a hydrotherapy pool.

Whenever we visit a new customer to discuss adaptations – the first thing they say is
“I don’t want it to look like a hospital!”
But considered design, quality materials and innovative equipment ensure that our home adaptations are always in keeping with the existing house.
‘Home adaptations’ include changing part or parts of a house to make access easier for the occupant and because they are not complex – they can be completed relatively quickly.
Modular
Bed-blocking has risen more than 40 percent in a year as hospitals continue to be overwhelmed with people needing care.
Research highlights acute problems with delayed discharges– where patients are medically fit to leave hospital but are stuck in beds due to problems arranging care in the community.

Well, many of our customers told us that they wished they could see what an adapted bathroom or kitchen looked like in real life. So, we listened … and opened a showroom with room sets featuring many of the most popular adaptations, and demonstrating that our adapted rooms can still be dream rooms!
Consultancy
We are often asked to act as consultants, offering professional advice on making homes safer and accessible for those who are frail or have disabilities.
Of course, when designing small adaptations (bathroom and kitchen adaptations for example) we carry this out as part of the design development and to ensure that all facilities are fit for purpose for the individual. We also incorporate Occupational Therapists to ensure that the design will benefit the client completely.
