Overview
The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students. To apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. The Assessment Delivery Team is recruiting Invigilators to work during the upcoming main assessment periods:
* Semester 1 (6-16 January 2026)
* Semester 2 (4-15 May 2026)
* Reassessments (27-31 July 2026)
Successful applicants will join our pool of Invigilators. There is no guarantee of work, but if appointed you will receive training, and we will endeavour to match your dates of availability to our examination sessions. Our next training day is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 3 December 2025. Attendance is mandatory at this session.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the management of examinations and maintain discipline.
* Work as part of a team to oversee the day to day operation of examination venues.
* Assist with setting up examination venues by transporting materials, laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in accordance with procedures.
* Assist candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examination venues.
* Make announcements to candidates prior to the start of examinations about examination regulations and procedures.
* Ensure candidates do not talk once inside examination venues.
* Deal with queries raised by candidates and check attendance during examinations.
* Record details of late arrivals and early leavers and collect scripts from early leavers.
* Escort candidates from venues during the examination, supervise candidates outside examination venues, and escort them on toilet breaks ensuring examination regulations are observed.
* Collect, collate and deliver scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with procedures.
* Supervise candidates leaving examination venues to ensure proper conduct and that equipment or stationery is not removed without authorisation.
* Log in and set up computers for computer-based exams and supervise candidates sitting exams on a computer.
* Maintain a quiet environment in the area outside the examination venue.
* Maintain discipline in examinations and enforce examination regulations and procedures.
* Ensure candidates are not admitted after the first 30 minutes or allowed to leave during the last 15 minutes.
* Observe candidates for misconduct and deal with cases in accordance with regulations and procedures, producing a written report of all relevant incidents.
Qualifications
* Ability to communicate instructions effectively at all levels.
* Good listening skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* High levels of accuracy and numeracy; ability to write clear and concise reports in a proforma style.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines.
* Ability to deal effectively with difficult interpersonal situations and follow codes of conduct and regulations.
* Ability to log in and set up computers; ability to competently use standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word) and learn in‑house systems.
* Experience of working in an environment requiring concentration and attention to detail.
* Willingness to attend two annual briefing sessions.
* Evidence of a commitment to Equal Opportunities.
