POST OF: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interest in complex elbow and shoulder arthroplasty
A post as a Consultant Orthopaedic shoulder and elbow surgeon is available now at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
The appointment is on a substantive basis, applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.
The appointee will be expected to work flexibly within the Upper Limb team and participate in the multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with complex orthopaedic problems. They will also participate in the on‑call rota.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a 1 wte Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon to join our existing enthusiastic and experienced team of Upper Limb surgeons.
This substantive post for a consultant with a special interest in both shoulder and elbow arthroplasty has been developed to assist the service with elective recovery and to meet national RTT targets. We specifically aim to increase support of our tertiary and quaternary arthroplasty work, including the management of patients with periprosthetic joint infections, in collaboration with the Bone Infection Unit (BIU) and the newly established elbow arthroplasty network, for which we are a hub centre. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience and enthusiasm for these priority areas.
All candidates must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold a Licence to Practice.

Qualifications/Training
* Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
* CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, or within 6 months of CCT at date of application, or on GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
* FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent
* General training in Orthopaedics
* D.Phil/PhD in topics related to the post
* Fellowship focussed on primary and revision arthroplasty surgery for both shoulder and elbow

Experience
* General training in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery to specialist level or equivalent
* Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems
* Evidence of working as part of a multidisciplinary team managing complex arthroplasty (revision & infection)
* Evidence of high‑volume practice in both shoulder and elbow arthroplasty
* Current consultant‑level practice in a tertiary centre – experience of independent management of complex primary and revision elbow arthroplasty
* Current consultant‑level practice in a tertiary centre – experience of independent management of primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent leadership skills; evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the consultant level in a teaching hospital
* Effective administrative and time‑management skills; training in clinical management; knowledge of the NHS organisation
* Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork within a multidisciplinary team
* Basic IT skills
* Good spoken and written English
* Experience of teaching undergraduate students and orthopaedic trainees
* Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
* Evidence of involvement in clinical management and participation in Clinical Governance
* Experience with electronic patient record and database administration and management
* Experience in innovation, design and development of medical technology
* Experience as a clinical supervisor to resident medical staff
* Experience of contributions to regional Elbow Network meetings
