Are you looking to build on your VAT and bookkeeping experience in a supportive and professional environment? Our client, a well-established firm of accountants based in the West Midlands, is seeking a meticulous and driven VAT and Bookkeeping Assistant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about providing high-quality financial services to a diverse range of clients, including those in farming, manufacturing, and services.
As part of a dynamic team, you'll work closely with a variety of clients, ensuring accurate VAT return preparation and bookkeeping services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Bookkeeping for a range of clients using QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and other online platforms.
2. Preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring only legitimate business expenses are reclaimed.
3. Assisting with basic bank reconciliations and VAT control accounts.
4. Supporting balance sheet reconciliations, including PAYE and wages accounts (training provided).
5. Applying various VAT regimes such as Cash Accounting, Flat Rate Scheme, and Second-hand Margin Scheme (knowledge helpful but not essential).
6. Assisting with VAT registrations and de-registrations for businesses.
7. Ensuring timely and accurate filing through a well-organised and systemised approach.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
8. Solid understanding of VAT principles and compliance.
9. Experience with QuickBooks (essential); familiarity with Xero, Sage, or other online platforms is a plus.
10. High attention to detail, particularly when managing VAT compliance and bookkeeping.
11. Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
12. Basic experience with reconciliation processes for bank accounts and VAT.
Desirable:
13. Knowledge of different VAT regimes (training will be provided).
14. Experience with balance sheet reconciliations, including PAYE and wages.
15. Interest in expanding skills into management accounts, accounts preparation, and tax compliance.
