The Clinical Pharmacy team for Critical Care are looking to recruit a pharmacist with hospital-based experience, who is motivated, dynamic and keen to learn and develop in this role.
This post will provide a varied experience, as well as valuable opportunities for personal and professional development. We currently have team members undertaking their independent prescribing certificate and specific teaching on critical care via both the UKCPA and the UCL 'Fundamentals of Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy' course. Applicants should be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Experience in critical care isn't essential, full training will be provided including attendance at the UKCPA Critical Care Foundation Course and there could be opportunity to complete the Pharmacist Adult Critical Care pathway course delivered by the UCL School of Pharmacy, University College London"
Main duties of the job
You will be part of an enthusiastic pharmacy team working across 2 general intensive care units (each with 8 level 3 beds), 1 cardiology intensive care unit (12 level 3 beds), a general high dependency unit (16 level 2 beds) and a spinal high dependency unit (4 level 2 beds).
Key priorities in the role will include:
1. Attendance and participation at consultant led post-take ward rounds on the Critical Care units
2. Providing prescribing advice and support to medical and nursing staff
3. Teaching members of the Critical Care MDT and developing strategies and training packages to deliver best care
4. Actively involved in service development projects within the pharmacy department and within Critical Care
5. Supervision, education and training of rotational pharmacists, foundation trainee pharmacy students and medicines management technicians
6. Contributing to the weekend ward-based clinical service across the critical care unit

7. Wealth of experience in clinical pharmacy within a hospital setting Experience of providing directorate level pharmacist services budgetary reports, drug usage reviews

9. Experience of developing strong professional relationships with other healthcare professionals
10. Experience of leading and contributing to relevant research, audit and service improvement projects

Qualifications
Essential criteria
12. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
13. Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
14. Evidence of CPD and ongoing education
15. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate clinical qualification (or actively working towards)
Desirable criteria
16. Pharmacist independent prescribing accreditation (or actively working towards)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
17. Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice
18. Involvement in development of evidence-based clinical guidelines, polices and protocols
19. Strong knowledge of medicines information resources
