Group Functional Safety Specialist (Process Safety)
UK – Fully Remote + Global Travel
I am currently supporting a major international manufacturing business with the search for a senior Functional Safety specialist to join their central Process Safety function.
This is not a standard project-based Functional Safety Engineer role.
The position sits at group level, supporting multiple international operating sites across Europe, Asia and the US, with a strong focus on live plant environments, operational assurance, and improving functional safety performance across the business.
The role requires someone who can operate both strategically and technically, helping shape functional safety standards and governance across the group, while still remaining hands-on across the full IEC 61511 lifecycle.
Key areas include:
• Leading and facilitating LOPA and SIL Assessments
• SIS / SIF design support and design verification
• Functional Safety Assessments (FSA)
• Supporting live operating sites with safety-critical systems
• Driving functional safety improvements across global manufacturing assets
• Working closely with site engineering, operations and EHS leadership teams
• Training, auditing and process safety incident support where required
The key requirement is strong owner-operator experience within high-hazard operating environments.
This role is much more focused on operational functional safety and accountability for live assets, rather than purely consultancy, design house or project-led exposure.
Ideal backgrounds could include chemicals, petrochemicals, refining, oil & gas, COMAH sites, or other major process manufacturing environments.
Recognised Functional Safety qualification required (TÜV, CFSE or equivalent).
The role is fully remote within the UK, with significant international travel expected (typically 50–60%).
