Communications Officer - (Ref: CO)
Key Details: Salary up to £35,270.79 per annum, Location: Cheshunt, Hertfordshire (Hybrid). Contract: 18‑month Fixed term, Working pattern: Full Time, Hours: 37 per week, Reference: CO. Closing date: 22 March 2026.
The Council is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to work within its small, but busy, communications team. You will undertake a wide range of duties including liaising with local and national media, writing press releases, maintaining the Council’s website, and supporting the Digital and Social Media Officer with content for social media channels. You will also be responsible for leading communications projects and creating and implementing targeted communications plans.
You will write articles and produce content for the media, social media (including basic videos), website and other communications channels, ensuring that it is factual, topical and concise. The role also involves monitoring press and media activity, promptly drafting public and media responses, and developing plans to continuously improve operations within the Communications team. You will be on hand for ad‑hoc duties, supporting the Communications Manager, and occasionally work out of hours, take photos, and represent the Council at various events.
Skills
* Good standard of written English and a meticulous eye for detail
* Experience with proofing written content and graphic design work in accordance with corporate style guidelines
* Experience using website content management systems (CMS)
* IT literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Confident in delivering ideas to the rest of the team
* Ability to confidently engage with senior officers
* A full driver’s licence is essential
* Ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential
