Business Development Executive Denholm Associates is supporting a large, well-established organisation within the UK utilities sector as they continue to grow their commercial team. With a strong national footprint, an expanding customer base and a clear purpose-led strategy, this organisation is recognised for combining scale with a progressive, customer-focused approach. They are now seeking a Business Development Executive to play a key role in driving new customer acquisition and building long-term, profitable partnerships across Scotland and England. The opportunity This is an exciting role for a commercially minded sales professional who enjoys winning new business, building trusted customer relationships and working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment. You'll focus on acquiring medium to large B2B customers across both regulated and non-regulated services, working closely with marketing, account management and service delivery teams to ensure a seamless customer journey from first contact through onboarding and beyond. Alongside commercial growth, the organisation places strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, sustainability and carbon reduction, giving this role genuine purpose as well as performance focus. Key responsibilities Drive new customer acquisition across Scotland and England through proactive business development Build, manage and convert a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities, with accurate forecasting and reporting Develop new business relationships and negotiate commercial agreements to agreed revenue targets Collaborate with marketing teams on prospecting, lead generation and nurturing strategies Prepare high-quality PQQs, tenders and proposals aligned to commercial strategy and governance Work closely with service delivery and account management teams to ensure smooth handover and onboarding Support customers in reducing usage, improving efficiency and achieving sustainability objectives Maintain strong product, technical and market knowledge across the full service portfolio Ensure CRM systems and sales documentation are accurate, compliant and up to date Represent the organisation professionally at national industry and networking events Act as an ambassador for the organisation's values, purpose and customer-first culture About you You'll be an energetic and driven sales professional with a strong commercial mindset and a genuine interest in building long-term customer value. Essential experience and skills: Proven experience selling B2B solutions to medium-large organisations A strong track record in target-driven, fast-paced sales environments Experience building and maintaining third-party and customer relationships Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences Strong commercial awareness and opportunity qualification skills High attention to detail, accuracy and accountability Confident user of Microsoft Word, Excel and CRM systems A customer-first approach with ownership of outcomes Desirable: Degree-qualified in a business-related discipline Experience of outbound B2B sales in utilities or a regulated mass-market environment Strong planning, organisation and negotiation skills Knowledge of the water or wider utilities sector (advantageous, not essential) Culture & values This organisation's culture is built around collaboration, trust and making a meaningful difference.
