Control Systems Engineer
Our client in Derby is recruiting an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join their team and contribute to bespoke automation projects in a medical industry manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop new control systems
* Program PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell / Mitsubishi)
* Work with software including Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, GX Works2, GT Designer 3, and Machine Edition
* Implement control systems software and associated equipment
* Support existing and legacy control systems and machinery
* Follow SOPs to ensure consistent and controlled software development
* Drive continuous improvement and maintain control systems, including PLCs and HMIs
* Upgrade existing equipment and integrate new automation solutions
* Develop functional, hardware, and software design specifications from user requirements
* Carry out FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning (including worldwide travel where required)
* Produce detailed documentation including FDS, FAT reports, and user manuals
* Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive working culture
* Ensure compliance with quality standards, GMP, and health & safety regulations
* Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
* Undertake any additional tasks as required by the business
Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years' experience in control systems or automation engineering
* Strong PLC programming experience, ideally with Rockwell / Allen Bradley systems
* Experience working within packaging machinery, special purpose machinery or similar engineering environments
* Proven track record in automation control for machinery projects
* Experience with motion control / servo systems (advantageous)
* Ability to produce clear and detailed technical documentation
* Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
* Willingness to travel for commissioning when required
