Role Overview
This SHO post is part of a 12‑person SHO team that works on a 12‑week rotation schedule throughout various clinical activities such as ward cover, on‑call days and nights, trauma and other clinical activities. The post is not currently educationally approved but follows recent college guidelines on extending the length of basic surgical training to three years. It is most suited to a trainee who is working towards obtaining BST and MRCS and who needs more overall surgical/orthopaedic experience before applying for a research or registrar position.
Responsibilities
* Work on a 12‑week rotation schedule across ward cover, on‑call duties, trauma and other clinical activities.
* Participate in the daily morning x‑ray conference, trauma round and new patient fracture clinic.
* Assist in all‑day operating lists for trauma patients admitted.
* Engage in daily teaching and learning opportunities offered by the department.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Current training in basic surgical training (BST) and MRCS.
* Desire to gain additional overall surgical/orthopaedic experience before pursuing a research or registrar role.
