An exciting opportunity for full‑time Band 5 Radiographers and soon‑to‑qualify students to work in the Radiology Department of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Department offers a broad range of modalities and provides full training to successful candidates.
We provide patient‑centred care across two main hospital sites – the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital – and several community outreach centres. The Freeman Hospital hosts the Institute of Transplantation, Renal Services and the Northern Centre for Cancer Care. The Royal Victoria Infirmary includes the Great North Trauma and Emergency Centre and the Great North Children’s Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The Radiology Department delivers high‑quality imaging across a range of modalities using a patient‑centred approach. Successful candidates will work as part of a team at one of the Trust’s main sites, providing imaging across a variety of modalities, including intraoperative screening. They will also participate in the out‑of‑hours service within their base hospital, working autonomously in a busy environment. A requirement to operate a wide range of modalities will be fulfilled after appropriate training.
Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential, and knowledge of current radiation legislation is required.
Job responsibilities

* Make an informed decision on the diagnostic images required.
* Demonstrate a professional, caring and responsible approach to patients, their relatives and other carers.
* Following an induction/probationary period, commit to shift work 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Person Specification – Qualifications & Education
* Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered.
* BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography – three‑year programme or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
* Working knowledge of radiation protection and methods of reducing patient radiation dose.
* Detailed knowledge of radiation protection legislation – Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) and Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR).
* Previous experience as a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), manual handling facilitator, Health and Safety representative or CPR trainer.
Skills & Abilities
* Good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team or independently as required.
* Basic IT skills.
