The Role The Senior Aviation Liability Claims Handler is responsible for the proactive management of complex and high‑value aviation liability claims, delivering high‑quality, commercially sound outcomes in line with client expectations, regulatory requirements and firm standards. You will act as a subject‑matter expert within the Aviation Liability claims team, handling complex claims independently while providing guidance and support to junior handlers. The role involves close collaboration with senior claims leadership, legal teams, insurers, brokers and external stakeholders, and plays a key role in maintaining technical excellence and service quality across the aviation liability practice. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Manage a portfolio of complex, high‑value and sensitive aviation liability claims, including litigated matters Lead the investigation, assessment and resolution of claims, with responsibility for liability analysis, strategy, reserving and settlement negotiations Apply advanced technical knowledge to consumer, attritional and large or complex loss claims Act as a key point of escalation for junior claims handlers, providing technical guidance and mentoring Work closely with legal teams and external counsel to develop and implement effective claims and litigation strategies Build and maintain strong working relationships with insurers, brokers and clients, ensuring clear and confident communication at all stages Ensure claims are handled in line with regulatory, contractual and internal governance requirements Deliver accurate MI, reporting and analysis to support operational oversight and client reporting Identify and drive improvements in claims handling processes, efficiency and service delivery Support senior claims leadership with project work, innovation initiatives or client activity as required Contribute to a collaborative, high‑performance and inclusive team culture Essential Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will bring: Significant experience handling aviation liability claims, including complex or litigated matters, within an insurance, legal or specialist claims environment Strong technical expertise in aviation liability, with the ability to manage complex coverage, liability and quantum issues Proven experience working autonomously and exercising sound commercial judgment on high‑value claims Experience supporting or mentoring junior claims handlers Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence dealing with senior internal and external contacts A high level of attention to detail, organisation and accuracy Strong understanding of regulatory and governance requirements within a claims environment A proactive and solutions‑focused mindset, with a commitment to technical and professional development The Firm When you work at Clyde & Co, you join a team of 500 partners, 2,400 lawyers, 3,200 legal professionals and 5,500 people in nearly 70 offices and associated offices worldwide.
