Junior Sports Assistant
Contract term: 12 months fixed term • Hours: Full time, Term time plus 5 days • Salary: £28,000 p.a. pro‑rata • Required: September 2026
Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a well‑qualified sportsperson to gain valuable experience at a leading independent school as a Junior Sports Assistant within our thriving PE department. Working primarily in the Junior School, you will support the delivery of a wide range of sporting activities for pupils aged 4 to 11.
Responsibilities
* Assist with junior swimming lessons, supporting children in EYFS and Key Stage 1.
* Accompany teaching staff on sport‑related fixtures, trips and activities.
* Contribute to Junior Games afternoons, depending on your sporting specialism.
* Possibly lead groups independently.
* Assist with junior lunchtime sports clubs, reinforcing key teaching points.
* Create a positive and engaging sporting environment.
* Provide administrative support to the PE department, including inputting assessment data and preparing or photocopying resources.
Qualifications
* Personable and enthusiastic with strong communication and organisational skills.
* Genuine passion for sport and education.
* Keen sportspeople who have played football, cricket, gymnastics, hockey, netball, swimming or tennis to a high level; candidates with other sporting specialisms will also be considered.
* Coaching experience and the ability to offer more than one sport to a high standard is advantageous.
