We are seeking a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to work in our busy childrens outpatients department based at Barnsley Hospital.
Childrens services had gone through a transformational change over the past 3 years, this includes childrens outpatients and its recovery from Covid 19.
Our Childrens outpatients department has a highly regarded childrens phlebotomy service.
The ideal candidate would have or be willing to undertake phlebotomy in children.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the provision of care within personal competence always under the direction of a registered nurse to children visiting the out-patients department at Barnsley Hospital.
Assist in the care of children & young peoples physical and personal needs, ensuring that a high level of patient care is achieved.
Assist in the preparation of patients for investigative procedures.
Chaperoning of patients in outpatients
Assist with collecting and testing of specimens as directed
Taking, recording and reporting of observations as directed by the registered nurse.
Assist in the care of simple wounds and dressings
Undertake phlebotomy duties
General Duties-
To contribute as a member of the team in the efficient organisation and running of the department
Attend and participate handovers/discussions as appropriate
Maintain patient records/charts as directed
Report any accidents or untoward occurrences to the Nurse in charge
Work in other wards and departments as and when necessary subject to the requirements of the service at the discretion of the nurse in charge
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times
Safeguard the welfare and safety of staff and patients according to the Health and Safety at work regulations

Experience
* At least 6 months of care experience working in a health or social care setting.
Qualifications
* Care Certificate.
* Completion of a clinical skills competency- based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or willingness to undertake.
* GCSE Maths & English or qualified to equivalent Functional skills level 2 in Maths & English, or willingness to undertake.
Knowledge and Awareness
* Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance.
* Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety.
* Knowledge of clinical patient observations.
* Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment e.g. blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, cannulation etc.
* Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues.
