Overview
A position is available for a Research Assistant/Associate funded jointly by UK Research and Innovation and Rolls‑Royce plc as part of the VECTA Prosperity Partnership. The post holder will contribute to a collaboration focusing on large‑scale distributed‑memory GPU computing for problems governed by partial differential equations with engineering applications. The role is based in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Key responsibilities
* Conduct research into high‑performance computing with an emphasis on GPU‑accelerated finite element method solvers.
* Publish research results in peer‑reviewed papers and present at conferences.
* Engage in knowledge exchange with potential users of the research outputs.
* Contribute to open‑source scientific software projects, including the FEniCS Project.
* Collaborate closely with partner universities and visit collaborating sites.
Skills, qualifications and experience
* Obtained or close to obtaining a PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related area.
* Experience in numerical methods for partial differential equation problems.
* Experience in GPU computing is an advantage.
* Strong research and communication skills.
Appointment and remuneration
Salary ranges
* Research Assistant: GBP 33,002 – GBP 35,608
* Research Associate: GBP 37,694 – GBP 46,049
Fixed‑term contract for 36 months (initial). Appointment at Research Associate level depends on having a PhD; non‑PhD candidates will be appointed at Research Assistant level and promoted upon PhD award.
