Head of Financial Accounting (6-Month Contract)
A leading organisation in its sector is seeking an experienced Head of Financial Accounting to join on a 6-month contract. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring exceptional technical accounting expertise combined with strong interpersonal skills and proven team management experience.
You will lead the financial accounting function, taking full responsibility for consolidated statutory reporting and oversight of the external audit process. You will provide authoritative technical accounting guidance across the organisation, ensuring compliance with the latest accounting standards and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of consolidated group and entity statutory financial statements
Act as the primary technical accounting expert, advising senior finance and non-finance stakeholders
Lead and coordinate the external audit process to ensure timely sign-off
Maintain and enhance accounting policies in line with FRS 102 and other relevant standards
Ensure robust financial controls across ledgers, balance sheet integrity, and reporting processes
Drive process optimisation, systems improvement, and continuous enhancement initiatives
Provide insight into the financial impact of legislative and accounting changes
Leadership & Team Management
You will lead a small team, fostering a high-performance culture built on accountability, development, and continuous improvement. This role requires a confident communicator who can translate complex technical matters into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders at all levels.
About You
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience
Extensive technical accounting knowledge, including FRS 102 and consolidated reporting
Proven experience leading year-end processes and external audits
Strong understanding of financial controls and statutory reporting requirements
Demonstrable experience managing and developing teams in a complex organisation
Confident, engaging and influencing senior stakeholders
Experience with ERP systems and driving process improvements
