Offer description

To supervise/cover the lessons of absent colleagues (unplanned), including planned absence, e.g. due to planned courses or release time To manage pupils in these lessons and ensure they complete the work to the expected standard. To mark work/feedback to children for classes that have been covered, following the schools feedback policy (except in the instance that a summative assessment has taken place) Update record keeping and assessment activities for children, as required for covered lessons Work as part of a team and assist the class teacher to ensure quality education for the children, e.g. by discussing the lessons before or after to ensure the continuity of high-quality education. Prepare for any planned cover session including ensuring an understanding of the concepts/curriculum being taught Report any concerns regarding children’s welfare or education, to the class teacher and in line with the school’s safeguarding policy and practices. Assist with the arrival and departure of children at the beginning and end of school sessions (as necessary). Support for individual and small groups of children in specific areas of the curriculum as directed by SLT. Manage and promote positive behaviour of pupils inline with the school behaviour policies, in the class reporting any issues arising, using the school’s agreed referral procedures (e.g. CPOMs). Provide support and assistance for children’s pastoral needs (e.g. dressing, going to the toilet, caring for sick, injured or distressed children) in line with the expectations of a class teacher. To work within an assigned year group in the event of no teachers needing cover and to support the year group in line with the expectations of a Learning Assistant in both curriculum and wider school opportunities Deal with any immediate problems/emergencies according to the school’s policies/procedures. Be familiar with the full range of school policies, particularly those regarding health and safety, safeguarding, equal opportunity issues and special educational needs. Accompany classes and small groups of children on educational visits. Accompany children if required to the swimming pool in the role of the class teacher. Carry out a lunchtime duty on days where no teachers require class cover. Specific administrative/procedural tasks to support the class teachers. Deal directly with parents, either seeking to resolve issues or to ensure the information is passed on to the relevant staff member. Be aware of children’s SEND and medical needs across the school in order to be able to act accordingly if the need arises in the absence of the class teacher. Assist with seasonal events e.g. parents’ evenings, concerts, discos, fairs in line with the expectations of a Learning Assistant Attend appropriate staff meetings and training days/events as requested. Any other duties required by the class teacher or Head of School within the scope of this post. The post holder shall ensure that the duties of the post are undertaken with due regard of the School’s Health & Safety Policy and to their personal responsibilities under the provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all other relevant subordinate legislation.
