As a Surveyor in our Home Improvement Agency, you can make your own powerful contribution to helping residents live independently, safely, and comfortably in their own homes. You’ll be at the heart of delivering adaptations and home improvements that transform lives – from installing level‑access showers and stairlifts to tackling damp, disrepair, and other hazards that impact wellbeing.
Responsibilities
 * Oversee and deliver a varied caseload of property assessments, working closely with residents, Occupational Therapists and contractors to design practical, high‑quality solutions that meet individual needs.
 * Manage complex disability adaptations, coordinate pre‑ and post‑work inspections and ensure works comply with legislation such as the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 and the Building Safety Act 2022.
 * Manage contractors to deliver works to the highest standards, maintain robust quality assurance systems, resolve service issues promptly, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
 * Ensure all works meet Council policies, legislation and best practice, and provide guidance to colleagues to uphold safe working standards.
 * Co‑coach and develop staff technical expertise, address complaints and defects promptly, and document all issues fully.
 * Collaborate with partner agencies, manage contracts in line with the Council’s Procurement Service and lead service development initiatives to improve processes, efficiency and customer outcomes.
Qualifications
 * Experience delivering disability adaptations, home improvements and repairs in residential buildings, including specialist works such as wheelchair lifts, ramps, level‑access showers and ceiling‑track hoists.
 * Proficient in assessing and addressing disrepair in line with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and applying legislation such as the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2010, CDM 2015 and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
 * Demonstrated ability to manage supplier relationships and analyse financial and performance information to identify opportunities for improvement.
 * Strong personal leadership in managing complex caseloads, leading change initiatives, service development and achieving key performance indicators.
 * Professional experience in designing and planning major adaptations, including creating and using plans, risk assessment, and delivering adaptations in homes where space is limited.
 * Capability to work independently (including lone working), adaptable, resilient and willing to travel across Westminster when required.
 * Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, engage and collaborate effectively across teams, departments and partner organisations.
 * Customer‑focused, empathetic, understanding the needs of vulnerable residents and delivering services safely, inclusively and to a high standard.
 * Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office, databases and interpreting scale drawings.
