Job Description
The Environment Agency (EA) is fully committed to an inclusive workforce. We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join the Strategic Design and Transition Programme. This role will assess the recommendations of the Independent Water Commission’s report, consider options for the EA’s future shape and design, and develop a plan to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth.
Key responsibilities include:
* Support work to provide high‑quality, balanced and evidence‑based advice on future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, specifically the recommendation to create one single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA and with other regulators to ensure alignment of thinking.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while keeping pace in a fast‑moving environment.
* Take a flexible approach and assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
* Act as an active member of the Programme team, creating conditions for a high‑performing and agile team to thrive amid high demand and ambiguity.
Experience and Skills Required
* Experience working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and decision‑making ability.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice at short notice.
* Experience working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
